Playing and studying the great links of Great Britain and Ireland is an essential part of what we do, but one of the great privileges and most formidable challenges is being invited to carry out work on them. We have advised upon 49 of Golf Monthley's Top 100 courses, including 8 of the 10 Open Championship venues - Royal Lytham and St Annes, Royal St. George's, Royal Troon, Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale, Carnoustie, Turnberry and Royal Portrush.
We carried out all of the changes to the Ailsa Course at Turnberry in preparation for The Open in 2009 and that continued with the significant adjustments to the Ailsa Course commissioned by Turnberry's new owner, Mr. Donald Trump.
Making the Dunluce Course at Royal Portrush ready for The Open was another major project with two new holes added to the layout to replace the old 17th and 18th which housed the large entrance spectator village.
We are also currently advising Royal St. George's, Royal Lytham and St Annes, Royal Troon and Carnoustie having previously made adjustments for the 2011, 2012, 2016, 2018 & 2021 Opens staged at these venues and also Royal Liverpool, where significant alterations have been made in preparation of The Open being held in 2023. This includes a new par 3 which will play as the 17th hole in the championship.
Most recently, Mackenzie & Ebert were appointed as the consulting architects at Royal Birkdale following a rigerous selection process in 2022. A Masterplan has been presented to the membership and is currently being evaluated.
