The 3rd hole has been the focus for adjustment ahead of the 2018 Open Championship. Previously, this short par 4 hole played as a medium iron followed by a short iron for the best players which was rather one dimensional. The revised layout gives the players the option of driving to the right of two central bunkers to get much closer to the green although the Jockeys Burn crossing in front of the green will limit the ambitions of driving the green.
In addition to the work on the 3rd hole, the 2nd tee was moved slightly and a new Open Practice Tee constructed on the other side of the larger Barry Burn to make more room for Open infrastructure. The 18th green on the Buddon Course was also rebuilt to make it a more suitable facility for short game practise.
